Not only the piano

The previous work "il vento" was music for piano only, but "il vento secondo" was produced with the addition of other instruments, at my request. This is because I thought that the music I wanted to represent in this work would be more interesting if it was combined with other instruments rather than being played by the piano only.
All 12 pieces are subtitled "tema e fuga (theme and fugue)," and in each one, the piano begins with a theme, and in the second half, various instruments play on that theme to form the music. However, although they are conveniently titled "fugue," which is well known, they are variously combined with phrases that use the theme as it is, in reverse or antithetical motion, and in half or double the length, so it may be more appropriate to call them a simple imitation of the 12-tone technique of the Vienna School rather than traditional fugue.
At the time of production, I was obsessed with the 12-tone technique, which may sound strange. While I incorporated experimental and non-traditional techniques like Satie and Cage in the works I presented, I had been studying harmony and counterpoint since my student days because I wanted to create a work using the ultimate compositional technique of the 12-tone technique. Knowing that I had neither the ability nor the adequate skills, I made many trial works and failed many times, but by combining that experience with my own "il vento" methods, "tema e fuga'' was born.
